Coated or Uncoated

Coated paper has a coating and a smooth finish. Coated papers are available in a gloss, silk, satin or matt finish and are used for projects requiring a fine finish, which is why coated paper is sometimes referred to as 'art' paper. Most leaflets brochures newsletters, annual reports are printed onto coated paper.

Uncoated paper doesn't have a coating and is not as smooth as coated paper.  Uncoated paper is used for laser printer and photocopying. Premium quality uncoated papers are used for business stationery and more and more are being used in brochures and catalogues and even annual reports as they enhance the design and usually have strong environmental credentials. They are also available in a range of finishes.
